Srinagar, May 13 (UNI) Three hardcore terrorists were killed in a gun battle with security forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, the Indian Army said on Tuesday.
They said an operation was launched on specific intelligence of a Rashtriya Rifles Unit, about the presence of terrorists in general area Shoekal Keller.
“During the operation, terrorists opened heavy fire and fierce firefight ensued, which resulted in the elimination of three hardcore terrorists,” Army said.
In a post on X, Army Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said, “On 13 May 2025, based on specific intelligence about presence of terrorists in general area Shoekal Keller, the Indian Army launched a search and destroy operation. During the operation, terrorists opened heavy fire and fierce firefight ensued, which resulted in the elimination of three hardcore terrorists.”
The Army said operation is in progress.
The identities and the group affiliation of the slain could not be established immediately.
This is the first gun battle in Kashmir after the Pahalgam massacre in which 25 tourists and a local were killed.
Meanwhile, posters featuring the three terrorists involved in the April 22 Pahalgam attack on tourists have been pasted in several districts of south Kashmir. The posters announce a reward for anyone who provides information leading to their arrest. The attackers remain at large.
