AP: Citizens Initiative seeks modified procedure for ration cards

Kakinada, May 11(UNI) The Citizen’s Initiative organisation has suggested to the Andhra Pradesh government to modify the procedure for issuing of ration cards as the present system is different from ground realties and based on the `Praja Sadhikarika Survey’ conducted in 2016.
Duvvuri Subrahmanyam, Secretary of Citizens Initiative, along with members called on the Joint Collector Rahul Meena and handed over a representation for forwarding the same to the Minister for Civil Supplies Nadendla Manohar, and also to Commissioner civil supplies on modifying the procedure to make it based on ground realities for issuing of ration cards.
He drew the attention of the government that many families are losing opportunity to get ration cards.
Everywhere in the modern era, the family system has undergone a sea change. Joint families are getting disintegrated to be replaced by nuclear families. There are a number of children who have left their parents and migrated to different distant places to make a living forming as nuclear families there.
Several couples because of differences are living separately for years .
Wife and husband living apart due to differences now will not come together to Grama sachivalayam and give thumb impression stating that they are living separately.
They will get only a single ration card. Similar is the case with the children. Since in the survey they are shown as a single family living with their parents they will not be able to get ration cards.
All the mess is because of the fact that the government will not allow split option based on affidavit, he added.
Hence on behalf of Citizens Initiative, Subrahmanyam requested the Andhra government to allow split based on affidavit for allocation of ration cards. He also wanted the income limit for ration cards to be raised from the present Rs.1.10 lakhs to Rs.1.60lakhs.
