AP: EPF pensioners lay siege of EPFO office

Kakinada, Mar 18(UNI) A large number of EPF pensioners from the district laid siege of the EPFO office here on Tuesday and staged a 'dharna' demanding hiking of the minimum pension to Rs 9,000.

The All Pensioners and Retired Persons Association launched the stir in response to the call given by the All India coordination committee of EPF Pensioners' organization.
They raised slogans demanding to sanction Rs 9,000 as minimum pension, restoration of concessions in Railways for senior citizens.
They also blamed the government for neglecting the EPF pensioners, who were getting less than Rs 1,000 as the pension for the past 20 years.
State committee leaders K Ramanamurty and Karri Baburao, while addressing the demonstrators, lamented that there were over 36 lakh pensioners in the country who were getting less than Rs.1,000 as the monthly EPO pension.
Later they called on the assistant Provident Fund commissioner Ramarao in a delegation and presented a representation on their demands.
