Arunachal Dy CM reviews progress of power infrastructure scheme

Itanagar, Apr 18 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein chaired a high-level review meeting at DC's conference hall in Namsai on the Comprehensive Scheme for Strengthening the Transmission and Distribution (T&D) System across the State.
The extensive meeting, which continued late into the evening on Thursday, focused on assessing the progress and addressing bottlenecks in the implementation of the ambitious power infrastructure project aimed at ensuring reliable electricity supply, particularly in remote and underserved regions.
Mein, who holds the Power and Hydropower portfolios, reviewed the current project status, took stock of the progress made, and enquired about reasons for delay, emphasizing the timely and coordinated implementation of the project to meet the State’s growing power demands.
“In recent years, we have significantly accelerated the development of the power sector in Arunachal Pradesh. The Power Steering Committee, chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, recently held a crucial meeting at Tawang to further expedite development of hydropower projects in the State,” he noted.
Stressing the need for a robust transmission and distribution (T&D) network to complement the State’s upcoming hydropower projects, the Deputy CM said, “With several hydropower projects underway, it is vital that our Transmission and Distribution infrastructure is ready for immediate power evacuation and distribution.”
He asked the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) to expedite all remaining works and ensure its timely completion. Mein also urged the PGCIL to maintain close coordination with the District Administration and Power Department, taking the local legislators into confidence for effective on-ground execution.
The meeting also marked the successful commissioning of three key projects under the Comprehensive scheme -- 33 kV side of the 132 kV Niglok Sub-station, the 33 kV Niglok–Ruskin Line, and the 33 kV Oyan Sub-station.
The meeting reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening Arunachal Pradesh’s power infrastructure—laying a strong foundation for sustainable growth, energy security, and enhanced quality of life for all citizens.
The review meeting was attended by a host of dignitaries including Agriculture Minister Gabriel D Wangsu, Deputy Speaker Kardo Nyigyor, Power Advisor Jikke Tako, several MLAs, PGCIL CMD R K Tyagi, PCCF P Subramaniam, Advisor to Dy CM Anupam Tangu, Power Secretary RK Sharma, Deputy Commissioners, Power Chief Engineers and senior officials from PowerGrid.
