Arunachal: Major interstate drug network busted, 4.497 kg cannabis seized, 4 held

Itanagar, Mar 22 (UNI) In a significant crackdown on interstate drug trafficking, Arunachal Pradesh's Chimpu Police seized 4.497 kg of cannabis (ganja) and arrested four individuals linked to an organized drug network operating from neighbouring Assam.
This operation follows the Chimpu Police’s recent success in dismantling a major heroin syndicate, Itanagar SP Rohit Rajbir Singh said on Saturday.
He said that on March 17, during a routine naka checking at Chimpu Check Post, police intercepted a Yamaha RayZ scooty (Reg. No. AR075985) and discovered 1.440 kg of cannabis concealed under the seat. Two individuals, Lijom Dulom (20) of Sikarijo, and Bhai Dobin alias Tumjum (19) of Airport Colony, Upper Subansiri, both residing in Chimpu-I village, were arrested.
Upon interrogation, the duo revealed that they procured the contraband from Tokobari, Assam, prompting a follow-up operation.
Acting on intelligence inputs, police arrested two more suspects on March 20—Narayan Mahanand (25) and Sanjay Kumar (23), both residents of Boroi Bagan, Biswanath, Assam. This operation resulted in the seizure of an additional 3.057 kg of cannabis, two mobile phones, and a Yamaha FZS motorcycle (Reg. No. AS32A-5431).
A case has been registered under Chimpu PS Case No. 23/2025 U/S 20(b)(ii)(B) & 27-A of the NDPS Act, with investigations ongoing to trace the main supplier, the SP said.
The successful operation was carried out by a team comprising Inspector N Nishant, SI T Bakhang, SI T Nabam, SI S K Jha, ASI Manish Kumar, ASI (SG) G Sangey, head constables J Romin, and G Padu, and lady head constable N Sora, with crucial support from the Chimpu-Gohpur Market Committee and Chimpu Youth Organization.
It was led by Itanagar SDPO Kengo Dirchi, Vibu Krishna, IPS (P) and Vivek Maurya, IPS(P) under the close supervision of SP Itanagar.
Meanwhile , the SP has urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking, stating that the department remains committed to stringent action against narcotics networks, ensuring a drug-free society through proactive enforcement and public cooperation.
