Assault, abuse of CRPF constable: Police incorporate SC/ST Act sections

Chandigarh, Mar 19 (UNI) After the intervention of the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission (PSSCC) Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi, the police have incorporated sections of the SC/ST Act in a case involving the assault and casteist abuse of a CRPF constable by cops in Amritsar.
According to a spokesperson of the Commission, the action was taken in response to a written complaint submitted by Parminder Kaur wife of Bhushan Kumar of Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar.
In her complaint, she alleged that her husband, a CRPF constable, was unjustifiably beaten by ASI Jaswinder Singh and Havildar Baljinder Singh, who also hurled casteist insults at him. Despite filing a complaint at the police station, authorities had registered a cross-case against Bhushan Kumar himself.
He informed that while police had initially registered a case against ASI Jaswinder Singh and Havildar Baljinder Singh, they had omitted sections of the SC/ST Act.
Upon the Commission's directives to reinvestigate the matter and include these vital sections, the Amritsar police complied during the day and assured the commission that the case registered against Bhushan Kumar will be withdrawn soon. UNI GS SSP
