Nagpur (Maharashtra) Mar 18 (UNI) Curfew has been imposed in several parts of Nagpur after violence broke out following rumours that a holy book has been desecreated during a demonstration by right-wing groups seeking the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's tomb in Khuldabad.
Police sources said on Tuesday that the situation is under control and no fresh incident of violence was reported.
Talking to media, Nagpur Police Commisisoner Ravinder Singhal, said that the situation is peaceful in the city.
However, police had imposed the restrictions last night by invoking Section 163 (power to issue order in urgent cases of nuisance or apprehended danger) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
He said that the restrictions would remain in place until further notice.
