Australian FM speaks with India, Pak counterparts; EAM stresses importance of zero tolerance against terrorism

Melbourne/New Delhi, May 12 (UNI) Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong today spoke with her Indian and Pakistani counterparts to welcome the ceasefire and urge respect for its terms. EAM Jaishankar in his talk stressed “the importance of zero tolerance against terrorism”.

Wong said in a post on X that de-escalation between India and Pakistan and counter-terrorism efforts are critical to regional peace and security.

“I know many Australians are concerned by recent hostilities between India and Pakistan.



“I’ve spoken with @DrSJaishankar and @MIshaqDar50 to welcome the ceasefire and urge respect for its terms.

“De-escalation and counter-terrorism efforts are critical to regional peace & security.”

EAM Jaishankar in a post said he congratulated her on her reappointment to the post following elections in Australia.

“Good to talk to @SenatorWong of Australia. Extended warm congratulations on her reappointment.

“Discussed recent developments and the importance of zero tolerance against terrorism.

“Look forward to further strengthening the multifaceted India-Australia Dosti.”
