Axelsen, Young win singles titles at India Open

New Delhi, Jan 19 (UNI) Paris Olympic champions Viktor Axelsen of Denmark and An Se Young of South Korea emerged victorious in their respective singles finals at the Yonex-Sunrise India Open 2025, held at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall here on Sunday.
Axelsen, playing in his sixth India Open final in a decade, clinched his third men's singles title with a commanding 21-16, 21-8 victory over Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu. Meanwhile, An Se Young, the 2023 India Open champion, dominated the women’s singles final, overcoming Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong 21-12, 21-9 in just 39 minutes.
In the men’s doubles, Malaysia’s Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin defeated South Korea’s Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae 21-15, 13-21, 21-16 in the only match to go the distance. Meanwhile, in mixed doubles, Chinese second seeds Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin triumphed 21-18, 21-17, ending the unseeded French duo Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue’s fairytale run.
The women’s doubles final saw Japan’s Arisa Igarashi and Ayaka Sakuramoto clinch the title with a 21-15, 21-13 win over South Korea’s Kim Hye Jang and Kong Hee Young, completing a remarkable run in only their third tournament together.
Axelsen, who had faced difficulties in his quarterfinal and semi-final matches, started slowly in the final, trailing 2-6. However, once he found his rhythm, the Dane dominated the match.

"After this week, I feel my motivation is coming back," Axelsen said after the win, reflecting on his struggles with injuries since the Olympics. He also expressed gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support throughout the tournament.
On the other hand, An Se Young continued her dominant form, extending her 2025 winning streak to 10 matches without dropping a single game. The 22-year-old's powerful game left Chochuwong with little chance, as she took control early in both games, closing out the final with ease.
With her second India Open title added to her recent Malaysia Open victory, An Se Young remains a force to reckon with in women’s badminton.
