Bamboo cultivation to empower one lakh women farmers in Odisha: Deputy CM

Bhubaneswar, Apr 22 (UNI) Bamboo cultivation will empower one lakh women farmers in Odisha, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida said on Tuesday.
Inaugurating a two-day state-level workshop on bamboo farming and livelihoods, Parida stated that, keeping in mind the growing demand for bamboo products in Odisha, the workshop has been organised to create opportunities for “Lakhpati Didis” in the bamboo industry—starting from bamboo cultivation itself.
She said a “Lakhpati Didi” has been created in every village in Odisha and appreciated the dedicated and tireless efforts of the Odisha Livelihood Mission and departmental officers in making Odisha number one in India under the Lakhpati Didi scheme.
The Deputy Chief Minister emphasized that such workshops are crucial to fulfilling the dreams of women entrepreneurs by focusing on skill development and engaging them in profitable ventures like bamboo-based businesses.
Senior officers from the Mission Shakti Department, Odisha Livelihood Mission, domain experts, master trainers, and national partner organizations such as the Industry Foundation participated in the workshop.
The two-day event includes sessions on bamboo planting techniques, intercropping, value addition, product diversification, pricing, design innovation, marketing, and export potential.
The training program also covers Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification, carbon credit monetization, and strategies for coordination and integration with major schemes like MGNREGS and the National Bamboo Mission.
District Programme Managers (DPMs), District Project Coordinators (DPCs), Livelihood Specialists, and Cluster Level Trainers from all districts actively participated in the workshop.
