Barua Sagar Fort in Bundelkhand to be developed as heritage hotel

Lucknow, Mar 18 (UNI) As part of this initiative to develop forts, havelis and other heritage properties in Uttar Pradesh as 'heritage destinations' to attract domestic and international tourists, the historic Barua Sagar Fort in Jhansi and Baradari near the famous Shukla Talab in Kanpur Dehat will be developed as a heritage hotels and wedding destination, official sources said here on Tuesday.
Sources said that a Concession Agreement has been signed between Director of Tourism Prakhar Mishra, Redwood Holding and Realty Service Private Limited, Bengaluru and Neemrana Hotels Private Limited, Rajasthan for these projects in the presence of Principal Secretary Tourism and Culture Mukesh Kumar Meshram.
Sources said that these projects will be executed under the adaptive reuse model through Public-Private Partnership (PPP), allowing tourists to experience local art, cuisine, culture and One District One Product (ODOP) initiatives.
Sources said Neemrana Hotels, Rajasthan, which operates 31 heritage properties, including Neemrana Fort Palace (Rajasthan) and Tijara Fort Palace (Alwar), will lead the transformation of Barua Sagar Fort in Jhansi. "Meanwhile, Redwood Holding and Realty, Bengaluru, known for its successful projects like Pilibhit House (Haridwar) and the conservation of Raja Mahal (Orchha, Madhya Pradesh), will oversee the Baradari development near Shukla Talab in Kanpur Dehat," they said.
Sources said that the restoration will use original materials and construction techniques, blending historical authenticity with modern innovation. "The projects will focus on local traditions, festivals, crafts and cuisine, creating immersive experiences for visitors. Besides, each property will adopt a nearby village for integrated rural development," they said.
Sources said, "This initiative will promote heritage tourism and destination weddings in UP. The development and operation of these heritage sites will prioritise local employment, with 25 percent of jobs reserved for local communities. Besides, ODOP products will be promoted to highlight the state's unique craftsmanship."
Minister of Tourism and Culture, Jaiveer Singh said that UP is rich in historical legacy and has immense potential for heritage tourism. "Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Bundelkhand's historical sites will be restored while retaining their original grandeur," he said.
He emphasised the government's commitment to preserving and re-purposing heritage sites. "The government's efforts to breathe new life into these properties while strengthening revenue sources are now materialising," he said.
