Bengaluru, June 6 (UNI) The BJP on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led Karnataka government in the wake of the RCB stampede tragedy, alleging that a "mutiny" was brewing within the state police force and claiming that the government had lost the trust of the very personnel tasked with upholding the law.
"When the police themselves rebel against the Congress government while holding Dr B.R. Ambedkar’s photo, it's not just a protest. It is a clear statement of no confidence," the BJP said in a sharply worded statement on social media.
The party accused the Congress government of having failed the police force, stating: "The very protectors of the law are now standing against the Congress government. A massive letdown of the police force by the state."
Lashing out at the ruling party over its stance on constitutional values, the BJP added, "Congress uses the Constitution as a photo prop. They neither respect it nor understand it."
The remarks come amid mounting political tensions following the suspension of senior police officials in the aftermath of the stampede at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the RCB felicitation event, which claimed one 11 lives and injured several others.
While the Congress has defended its decision to suspend Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayanand and others, the opposition has accused the government of scapegoating the police for what it describes as broader administrative lapses.
The BJP has demanded a judicial enquiry headed by a sitting judge into the incident and sought accountability from senior ministers involved in the planning and oversight of the event.
