BJP leader alleges funds misuse, targets chief secy

POLTICS-BJP-HIMACHAL
Shimla, April 17(UNI) Political tensions rose in Himachal Pradesh after senior BJP leader, and current MLA Bikram Thakur leveled serious allegations against the state government and chief secretary Prabodh Saxena. Thakur claimed that a Holi celebration held at the government-run Holiday Home in Shimla was a misuse of public funds.
Thakur alleged that the extravagant party, attended by senior officials and their families, was organized at the taxpayers' expense at a time when the state is burdened with a debt of over Rs 1 lakh crore. He questioned the priorities of the government and the bureaucracy, saying such events reflected their insensitivity towards common citizens.
He further stated that the celebration blatantly violated principles of democratic responsibility, administrative conduct, and moral integrity.
Referring to the Central Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1964, he emphasized that government officials are expected to uphold values of honesty, impartiality, and dedication to duty — standards that were clearly compromised in this incident.
Thakur also invoked the Constitution, stating that it is the duty of the state to ensure transparency and social welfare, but instead, the very officials appointed to serve the public are misusing public money for personal enjoyment.
The incident was brought to light by a journalist, who, according to Thakur, showed great courage in exposing the truth. In the current climate, where freedom of expression is under growing pressure in Himachal, Thakur called for immediate protection and support for the journalist, demanding that no indirect threats or mental pressure be exerted against them.
Thakur urged the state government to initiate a fair and impartial investigation into the matter and take strict disciplinary action against those found guilty.
