New Delhi, June 2 (UNI) BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla launched a fierce attack on Congress leader Priyanka Vadra, questioning her silence on "the rising crimes in Karnataka", including against women, despite her repeated claims of being a "girl who can fight".
In a sharp video statement, Poonawalla asked why Priyanka Vadra remains mute when horrific incidents like the gang rape of a minor girl occur in Congress-ruled Belagavi and other parts of the state.
Poonawalla accused the Congress government in Karnataka of failing to maintain law and order and being mired in internal power struggles.
Since coming to power, he said, the Karnataka government’s only focus has been on securing political chairs and deciding who will become Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and Home Minister — rather than addressing the concerns of the public.
The BJP leader further alleged that the government is busy imposing heavy burdens on citizens through increased taxes and misappropriating public funds, while law and order, especially women’s safety, have completely collapsed.
Citing recent incidents, Poonawalla referred to the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl in Belagavi, where blackmail videos were made to intimidate the victim. He described the incident as "heartbreaking and soul-shaking", stressing that it was not an isolated case. He also recalled the rape of an Israeli tourist and a brutal murder akin to the infamous Nirbhaya case, dubbing it "Nirbhaya Part Two".
Highlighting the "continuous rise in crimes against minors", Poonawalla mentioned a chilling case from Koppal, where a man was hacked to death with swords and machetes just one kilometre from a police station, painting a grim picture of Karnataka’s deteriorating law and order.
He questioned the Congress government’s failure in infrastructure development, flood management, and law and order maintenance in a state considered the IT capital and an intellectual and business hub.
Poonawalla also criticised the dismissive attitude of Congress Home Ministers, who reportedly advise people to "let such incidents happen", revealing a complete lack of concern for public safety.
Given the extensive media coverage of these incidents, Poonawalla demanded urgent action and strict enforcement to restore law and order and protect women in Karnataka.
