BSF strikes back after unprovoked Pak firing

Jammu, May 10 (UNI) Pakistan Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing on Border Security Force (BSF) posts along the International Boundary (IB) in the Jammu sector late on Friday night, prompting a strong and calibrated response from Indian forces, officials said on Saturday.

According to BSF officials, the firing began around 9pm on May 9 without any provocation. In response, BSF troops retaliated in a "commensurate manner," inflicting "widespread damage" to the posts and assets of the Pakistan Rangers.

"There was unprovoked firing from across the border, to which BSF gave a befitting reply. Our response was precise and effective," a BSF spokesperson said.

The BSF reiterated its unwavering commitment to safeguard the nation's sovereignty, asserting that any act of aggression from across the border will be met with an appropriate and firm response.

There were no immediate reports of casualties on the Indian side. Security forces remain on high alert across the border areas in view of the incident.
