BSNL unveils “Quantum 5G FWA” in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, June 18 (UNI) Telecom major Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on Wednesday announced the soft launch of BSNL Quantum 5G FWA, an indigenous, SIM-less fixed-wireless-access solution that delivers fibre-like speeds over 5G radio.
Addressing after inaugurating the service at BSNL’s Ameerpet Exchange here, A Robert J Ravi, Chairman & Managing Director, BSNL/MTNL, said, “Quantum 5G FWA demonstrates how Indian engineers can create world-class connectivity. It is the first SIM-less, 100 percent home grown customised 5G FWA for BSNL.”
He said, “Hyderabad’s tech-savvy ecosystem makes it the perfect launch-pad for our next-generation access portfolio. Today is only a soft launch—many more cities and feature upgrades will follow.”
Roadmap after the soft launch, he said, a pilot expansion will be in Bengaluru, Pondicherry, Visakhapatnam, Pune, Chandigarh and Gwalior, where they will go live by September 2025.
While referring to Tariff, he informed about the introductory plans of Rs 999 & Rs 1,499 per month with 100Mbps and 300Mbps speeds, respectively.
The same 5G SA core will support network-sliced, SLA-backed links for MSMEs and smart-manufacturing clusters. This is a controlled (“soft”) launch intended for customer experience fine-tuning; nationwide commercial roll-out will follow after field feedback, he informed.
Parallelly, the BSNL also commissioned its first ‘Micro Data Centre’ on the Hyderabad campus—an edge facility that houses compute, storage and security in a single rack, the telecom said in a release here.
BSNL’s MDC initiative introduces a nation-wide fabric of innovative micro edge data centres —compact, fully-featured, Tier-class facilities that can be deployed either on the customer’s premises or within BSNL’s own sites in every corner of the country.
Leveraging BSNL’s vast fibre backbone, tower real estate and power-backed exchanges, each MDC offers secure compute, storage and networking at the edge, eliminating latency while keeping data local.
Whether a firm needs a single-rack edge pod in a remote plant or a city-scale hub inside a BSNL exchange, the network’s pan-India infrastructure makes true distributed cloud a reality.
Enterprises can lease virtual servers or physical RU space inside the MDC starting next month.
With Quantum 5G FWA and the Micro Data Centre, BSNL becomes the first Indian operator to offer indigenous 5G radio, SIM-less authentication and edge-cloud data centres, reinforcing its historic role as the country’s telecom trailblazer.
Further strengthening its telecommunications infrastructure, BSNL announced the launch of its International Gateway (IGW) facility in Hyderabad.
An IGW connects domestic telecom networks with international telecom networks, essential for facilitating seamless global voice, SMS, and data communication.
The Hyderabad IGW will ensure efficient and direct routing of international voice and data traffic through dedicated paths to international cable landing stations, significantly enhancing the quality and reliability of international telecommunications services for BSNL customers, the release said.
D M Ezhil Buddhan, Chief General Manager Broadband Networks and Ratna Kumar, Chief General Manager,Telangana Circle were also present on the occasion.
