Chhattisgarh: Govt confirms 'zero tolerance' policy against corruption

Raipur, May 7 (UNI) The Chhattisgarh government has reiterated its 'zero tolerance' policy against corruption during the third phase of 'Sushasan Tihar'.

Following confirmation of three contractual employees demanding and extorting bribes from beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Bemetara district, Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai directed swift and stringent action.

The incident came to light through a viral audio clip, where Nira Sahu, an Awas Mitra, was heard demanding a bribe of Rs 25,000 in exchange for releasing installments under the scheme. A subsequent investigation by the Tehsildar confirmed Nira Sahu's voice in the audio clip.

Two other accused, Narayan Sahu and his wife Ishwari Sahu, were found guilty of threatening and demanding money from beneficiaries.

Based on a written report from the Janpad Panchayat Navagarh CEO and an FIR (first information report) registered at the Nandghat police station, all three accused were immediately terminated from service.
An FIR has been registered under sections 308(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai stated that this action is a testament to the core objective of 'Sushasan Tihar'.

He emphasized that transparency, accountability and honesty are paramount in the effective implementation of public welfare schemes, and corruption will not be tolerated at any level.

“The government is committed to ensuring that no officer or employee misuses their powers and will face strict action if they do so. This action is not just against corruption but a commitment to good governance,” he added.
