Bilaspur, May 9 (UNI) The Chhattisgarh High Court on Friday refused to stay the election petition challenging the 2023 assembly election of former Chief Minister and Patan MLA Bhupesh Baghel.
The petition will now continue to be heard in the High Court.
The court dismissed Baghel's plea seeking dismissal of the election petition on technical grounds. The next hearing in the case will be on June 18.
The election petition was filed by Vijay Baghel, BJP MP from Durg and the party's candidate from Patan assembly constituency, alleging violation of model code of conduct and Election Commission directives during the assembly elections.
The petition claims that Bhupesh Baghel indulged in corrupt practices and seeks to have his election nullified, citing several documents in support.
Baghel had sought dismissal of the petition on technical and other grounds.
However, Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal of the High Court dismissed his plea, observing that the election petition contains sufficient evidence and cannot be dismissed at this stage. The hearing on the petition filed by Vijay Baghel will now proceed.
