Congress holds protest in Shimla against ED Action on Sonia, Rahul

Shimla, Apr 16 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Congress on Wednesday organised a protest here against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for filing chargesheet against senior party leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, along with State Congress President Pratibha Singh, Rural Development Minister Anirudh Singh, PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh, and several MLAs including Kuldeep Singh Rathore, Mohan Lal Brakta, Sanjay Awasthi, and Baba Hardeep Singh participated in the protest.
Many senior Congress leaders, party workers, and members of the Seva Dal, Mahila Congress, and other associated organizations also joined the demonstration. They raised slogans against the central government and the ED.
Chief Minister Sukhu strongly criticised the ED, calling the charges baseless. He said the National Herald newspaper belongs to the Congress and there has been no financial wrongdoing in the matter.
He accused the ED of acting like a "puppet" of the BJP government, targeting opposition leaders on demand. Sukhu said the BJP is using central agencies to silence leaders like Rahul Gandhi, who bravely speak against rising unemployment, inflation, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He praised Sonia Gandhi for her dedication to the party and the nation, reminding everyone that she gave up the Prime Minister’s post for the greater good.
He added that any insult to Sonia Gandhi would not be tolerated. He claimed that the ED was trying to "defame" the Gandhi family with "false" accusations after 12 years, but this attempt will fail. He emphasized the contribution of the Gandhi family to India’s freedom struggle and development.
State Congress President Pratibha Singh said the Congress was not afraid of the BJP’s tactics. She accused the BJP of "misusing" institutions like the ED and Income Tax department to "threaten: the opposition. She said the people of India now understand the truth about the BJP.
She also stated that the ED's chargesheet against Sonia and Rahul Gandhi was "politically motivated" and aimed at 'revenge". She assured that the Congress stands united with the Gandhi family and will continue to support them.
Congress spokesperson and Theog MLA Kuldeep Singh Rathore also questioned the ED’s actions. He said the chargesheet has no solid basis and is "completely false". He accused the BJP of trying to hide its own scams, like the Rafale deal and electoral bonds, by targeting Congress leaders.
On the other hand, rebutting the claims of the Congress party, BJP leader Trilok Jamwal hailed the ED action against Congress leaders and also accused the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government for providing Rs 2.50 Crore to a newspaper in last two years on advertisements. UNI ML SSP
