Congress veteran Thennala Balakrishna Pillai no more

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 6 (UNI) Congress stalwart Thennala Balakrishna Pillai who was undergoing treatment for age related ailments died at a private hospital here on Friday.
He was 95. He was elected twice (1977 -1980 and 1982-1987) to the Kerala Legislative Assembly from the Adoor constituency. He was also nominated to the Rajya Sabha three times.
He also served as President of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (1998–2001 and 2004–2005). He was born at Sooranad, Kollam, on 11 March 1930, to N. Gopala Pillai and N. Eswari Amma.
He got married on July 3, 1963 to Sathi Devi and they had one daughter. He held a degree in B.Sc from Mahatma Gandhi College, Thiruvananthapuram.
Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condoled the demise of the veteran Congress leader.
Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala said Thennala Balakrishna Pillai was a great leader who always kept his party before personal interests.
"It was from him that I took over as KPCC President. He was always ready to provide advise whenever we were in need. He was a person who always created consensus within the party," Chennithala added.
Opposition leader VD Satheesan said Thennala was a true Congress loyalist and role model. He never chased positions, upheld impeccable integrity, and lived a blemish-free political life.
"His legacy will continue to inspire. Deepest condolences to his family," he said.
