CPI(M) urges Telangana Govt to provide VLA opportunities for VRA descendants

Hyderabad, Mar 13 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has urged the Telangana government to provide job opportunities to the descendants of Village Revenue Assistants (VRAs) above 61 years of age in the Village Level Officer (VLO) posts currently being recruited at the field level.

In a statement on Thursday, CPI(M) Telangana State Secretary John Wesley welcomed the Telangana State Cabinet's decision to appoint 10,950 VLOs to strengthen the village revenue
system and called for its swift implementation.

He emphasised the need to accommodate VRA descendants above 61 years of age, who have been serving the government and the public for generations with minimal wages.

Wesley recalled that the previous BRS government had issued GOs 81 and 85 in July and August 2023, which aimed to provide jobs to VRA descendants above 61 years.
However, despite these orders, 3,797 eligible VRA heirs are yet to receive employment opportunities. Many of these individuals, expecting to inherit their fathers' jobs, distributed family property or took loans in anticipation of future stability. Financial distress and mental anguish have led some to take extreme steps, Wesley noted.

He criticised the current government's delay in addressing the issue despite forming a committee to study the matter.
Wesley urged the Telangana government to adopt a humanitarian approach and offer opportunities
to VRA descendants above 61 years of age in the upcoming VLO appointments to support their families and alleviate their struggles.
