Virudhunagar (Tamil Nadu), Apr 29 (UNI) The death toll in a massive explosion at a private fireworks factory at village in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu rose to four, after a 55-year-old woman worker succumbed to burn injuries on Tuesday.
Police sources said D.Bhagyalakshmi, who suffered over 40 percent burns in the accident, died at Sivakasi government hospital, without responding to the treatment.
The fire broke out at Standard Fireworks Factory at M.Pudupatti village near Sivakasi here, when a group of workers were engaged in missing highly inflammable chemicals for making fancy varieties
of crackers.
Series of explosions triggered by the inferno had razed down five warehouses, where a huge stock
of finished crackers and chemicals were stored.
While three women workers, identified as M.Mariammal (51), R.Thiruvaimozhi (48) and V.Kalaiselvi (35) were charred to death on the spot, seven other women workers sustained burn injuries, three of them critically in the explosion.
The condition of two of the injured women, who were undergoing treatment in the hospital, was stated to be critical, the sources added.
