New Delhi/Brussels, May 2 (UNI) The EU Foreign Policy chief Kaja Kallas today voiced alarm over the rising tensions between India and Pakistan, in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, and urged both sides to show restraint and pursue dialogue.
In a post on X, Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy / Vice-President of the European Commission, said she spoke to both External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
“Rising tensions between India and Pakistan are alarming. I urge both sides to show restraint and pursue dialogue to ease the situation. Escalation helps no one. I spoke to both @DrSJaishankar and @MIshaqDar50 today to convey these messages.”
EAM Jaishankar said in a post on X that the two discussed the Pahalgam terror attack, and welcomed the EU’s strong condemnation of terrorism.
“Good to speak with EU HRVP @kajakallas this evening.
“Discussed the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Welcome European Union’s strong condemnation of terrorism in all forms and manifestations.”
The EAM also spoke with the Swiss Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis.
“Appreciate the telecon with Federal Councilor @ignaziocassis of Switzerland.
“Thanked him for his support and solidarity. We agreed on zero tolerance for terrorism.”
The calls by the EU foreign policy chief to both sides comes after the US VP JD Vance spoke to EAM and to the Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to de-escalate tensions, and also after the UN chief Antonio Guterres did the same.
