Ex-CM Jagan Mohan Reddy to console victims of police brutality

Vijayawada, June 2 (UNI) YSR Congress Party President and former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy will visit Tenali town on June 3 to meet the family of one of three young victims from Dalit and minority communities who were allegedly assaulted by police personnel.

Expressing deep anguish, Jagan Mohan Reddy described the incident as an inhuman act that has shaken the conscience of the state. YSRCP MP from Tirupati, Dr. Maddila Gurumoorthy, met the Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Justice V. Ramasubramanian, and the Chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), Kishor Makwana, in New Delhi to submit formal complaints.

The MP urged immediate action against the police personnel involved in the brutal assault on three Dalit and minority youths in Tenali town in Guntur district, a few days ago, in public glare and broad daylight. The MP said that former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy would visit the victims of police brutality on Tuesday.

Dr. Gurumoorthy highlighted the systemic misuse of the police system by the state government to target YSRCP leaders and suppress marginalized communities, particularly Dalits, tribals, and Backward Classes.

He condemned the rising incidents of custodial violence and lawlessness, the Chandrababu Naidu-led government treating Dalits with contempt and silencing their voices. Both the NHRC and NCSC assured that they would take suo motu cognizance of the issue, issue notices, and register a case to address the grave violations of human rights and constitutional safeguards.
