Ex-CM KCR mortgaged Telangana interests to AP in utilising Godavari, Krishna waters: CM Revanth

Hyderabad, July 1 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy today fired a salvo at former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, accusing them of playing ‘spoilsport’ in the protection of Telangana state interests in the utilisation of river Godavari and Krishna waters.
Participating in the powerpoint representation on the Banakacharla Project at Praja Bhavan here, Revanth Reddy accused KCR of being responsible for the present crisis in water sharing between AP and Telangana state.
It was KCR who permitted the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh to utilise Godavari water without specific allocations, in a meeting held on June 18, 2015, he said, adding, “KCR and former Minister Harish signed the ‘death warrant’ for Telangana and signed the water allocation with their AP counterparts”.
Exposing the KCR’s government in the allocation and utilisation of water from Godavari and Krishna, he said out of 1486 TMC in the Godavari basin, 968 TMC were allocated to Telangana and 518 TMC to Andhra.
AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu took advantage of KCR’s statement of availability of 3,000 TMC of flood waters by constructing projects without allocation of water between the two states, he pointed out.
He said, KCR made a powerpoint presentation in Praja Bhavan to the then AP CM Jagan Mohan Reddy and allowed AP to lift Godavari water. The two CMs – KCR and Jagan helped mutually and ‘deprived Telangana’ of its share of water in Godavari, and now, KCR and BRS leader T Harish Rao are peddling lies on water issues only for political survival, the CM alleged.
“Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy and I have nothing to do with Rayalaseema prawn soup. We have to deal with the rights of the people of Telangana. For this, we are ready to fight anywhere with a fair approach,” the CM affirmed.
The CM dared Harish Rao to come for a debate on Godavari and Krishna water for two days in the Assembly. The BRS should write a letter in Speaker format for this.
Stating that the Telangana's share of flood water will be finalised only after the completion of the pending projects in the state, the Chief Minister stressed that the two Telugu states should hold talks to arrive at a conclusion on the share of flood waters and surplus water.
The State government is ready to fight a legal battle for Telangana rights, the CM said, appealing to AP CM Chandrababu to come forward to resolve water sharing disputes amicably.
Revanth Reddy also recounted fears raised by former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on river water disputes at the time of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and the creation of River water management board to resolve the disputes.
The CM said that AP was objecting to Telangana in constructing projects in Krishna basin.
He wondered why the AP was opposing projects even after the allocation of assured water to Telangana projects.
The Chief Minister criticised KCR for not completing pending projects - Kalwakurthy, Palamuru, SLBC, Bima, Nettempadu etc. Thus, Telangana could not use 299 TMC of water.
KCR and Harish Rao wrote a death warrant for people living in Krishna basin, the CM charged.
The former CM KCR also re-engineered the life-saving Chevella project for the greed of money. The Kaleshwaram project was constructed at the cost of more than Rs one lakh crore but provided irrigation to not more than 50,000 acres.
“Our focus should be on achieving permanent rights in water sharing. The objective of the meeting is not to fight with KCR but to achieve our rights. We should put all our focus on the central government and the BJP,” the CM said.
Telangana people might have differences of opinions on various issues. However, the entire Telangana community is united on water issues, the CM said, adding that all the decisions taken by KCR government were done with carelessness and arrogance which has become a stumbling block for Telangana.
