Fellows to boost ecotourism to be appointed in UP

Lucknow, Apr 17 (UNI) To boost eco-tourism and environmental conservation in the state, the Uttar Pradesh Eco Tourism Development Board (UPETDB) will appoint 18 Eco Tourism Fellows and one Programme Coordinator to enhance infrastructure, empower local communities and preserve the environment, sources said here on Thursday.
Sources said that a detailed action plan has been presented to Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh, and the programme will roll out once approved.
"The selected fellows and the coordinator will take on several key responsibilities, including the implementation of ecotourism projects, conducting training and awareness programs for local communities and stakeholders and promoting eco-tourism destinations across the state," they said.
Sources said, "They will also collaborate with government and non-government bodies, manage tourism-related data, monitor ongoing projects, identify gaps in infrastructure at tourism sites and support environmentally friendly tourism practices."
Sources said that to apply for this programme, candidates must have a master's degree in Environmental Science, Wildlife Science, Forestry, Ecology or a related field with at least 60 percent marks.
"Applicants should be aged between 23 and 40 years, proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and fluent in both Hindi and English," they said.
Sources said that the selection will be based purely on quality and merit. It will be conducted by the UP Eco Tourism Development Board through a special selection committee.
"Each selected fellow will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 30,000 and an additional Rs 10,000 for travel. The total estimated cost of the program is Rs 91.20 lakh per year, excluding training costs. The fellowship will be for one year and may be extended for another year if needed," they said.
Sources said that the locations where the 18 fellows will be placed will be decided by the Principal Secretaries of the Tourism and Forest Departments, ensuring the fellows are assigned to suitable ecotourism sites across the state.Sources said that the Yogi government has taken several innovative steps to make UP a leader in ecotourism.
"This new programme aims to promote environmental protection, create local job opportunities and boost economic growth," they said.
Sources said, "It will help preserve the state's natural resources and give tourists a chance to explore UP's rich biodiversity and cultural heritage. Experts believe this kind of initiative will not only attract tourists, but also raise awareness about environmental conservation among local communities."
