Four-year-old baby dies in massive fire in Meghalaya

Shillong, Mar 18 (UNI) In a gruesome incident, a four-year-old girl was charred to death, while her sister survived, in a massive fire that gutted their house at Sahsniang-B village in Meghalaya’s West Jaiñtia Hills district on Monday night, police said on Tuesday.
The victim has been identified as Elisha Iakai while her 11-year-old sister, Glorify Iakai, managed to escape the raging blaze.
According to village elders, the fire broke out at around 8 PM when the two sisters were fast asleep and the mother of the two was coming home from the market.
“The eldest sister (Glorify) tried her best to woke up her younger sister but was unable to do as the fire was swiftly engulfing the house,” Founder Syngkon,the village elder said.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya Police is still investigating the cause of the fire.
