Himachal: BJP MLA Sharma accuses Sukhu govt of Liquor scam

Shimla, Mar 19(UNI) BJP MLA Randhir Sharma on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led Himachal Pradesh government, accusing it of financial mismanagement and corruption, particularly in the excise sector.
Participating in the discussion on the budget presented by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on March 17, Sharma alleged that a liquor scam under the current government had severely impacted the state's revenue receipts.
Sharma criticized the Chief Minister for failing to boost the state’s economy and claimed that the budget increase was a mere Rs 70 crore.
"Last year, the budget was increased by Rs 5,000 crore, and revenue receipts went up by Rs 4,000 crore. However, this year, revenue receipts have risen by only Rs 190 crore. The Chief Minister blames the central government, but the real reason is the Congress government's corruption and financial mismanagement," Sharma alleged.
He further alleged that tax and excise collections had declined under the Congress regime, with the liquor scam being a major factor.
"Due to the liquor scam, Himachal Pradesh has suffered a huge loss in revenue. Instead of ensuring transparency in excise policy, the government has allowed corruption to flourish, leading to financial distress in the state," he charged.
Sharma further accused the government of failing to attract industries to Himachal Pradesh. "Industries are not coming, and the ones that were already here are leaving. This is worsening the financial crisis in the state," he said.
Taking dig at the Himachal Chief Minister, Sharma said that CM seems to be following the footsteps of former Delhi AAP chief minister (who used to go to assembly to present budget in WaganR), as he also uses an Alto car for presenting budget for last two years.
He also targeted Deputy Chief minister Mukesh Agnihotri for his criticism of Union Transport minister Nitin Gadkari.
He also raised concerns over the declining Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the state, which he said was affecting its borrowing capacity. "Himachal Pradesh can only take loans up to 3 percent of its GDP. With the economy deteriorating, the government is finding it difficult to secure loans for development projects," Sharma claimed.
Sharma urged the government to focus on real economic reforms rather than blaming the Centre for its financial woes.
