Himachal: Cabinet decides to take over major hydropower projects from Central companies

Shimla, Apr 5 (UNI) The Council of Ministers of Himachal Pradesh on Saturday decided to take back control of several hydropower projects that were being built by central government companies like SJVNL and NHPC.
These projects include the 382 MW Sunni, 210 MW Luhri Stage-I, and 66 MW Dhaulasidh projects from SJVNL, as well as the 500 MW Dugar and 180 MW Baira Suil projects from NHPC.
To make this happen, the government will appoint an independent expert to check how much money these companies have already spent on the projects.
For the Baira Suil project, an administrator will be appointed to handle the takeover.
The government has made new rules for hydropower projects to ensure the state gets a fairer share of
benefits. Private projects above 5 MW will now give 50 percent royalty to the state after a certain period, up from the earlier 30 percent.
