Hyd: Distribution of Fish Prasadam begins in with grand public participation

Hyderabad, June 8 (UNI) The traditional distribution of Fish Prasadam by the Bathini family commenced on Sunday at the Nampally Exhibition Grounds, coinciding with Mrigasira Karte.
The annual event, known for offering relief to asthma patients, was formally inaugurated by Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, along with MP Anil Kumar.
TPCC President and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud, former MP Madhu Yashki Goud, and Fisheries Corporation Chairman Mettu Sai Kumar also participated in the launch of the two-day programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahesh Kumar Goud urged the public to take advantage of the traditional fish prasadam, regarded as a remedy for asthma and other respiratory ailments. He lauded the 178-year-old tradition maintained by the Bathini family as a symbol of humanitarian service and called for conferring the Padma Shri on the family in recognition of their long-standing contribution to public health.
He also emphasised the importance of faith and respect toward traditional medicine, noting that people arrive in large numbers not only from the Telugu states but from across the country. He appreciated the Bathini family’s commitment to offering the prasadam free of cost, guided by strong humanitarian values.
Extensive arrangements were made by various government departments to ensure smooth and safe distribution. To accommodate the growing turnout, the number of queue lines was increased from 32 to 42. The Fisheries Department made over 1.5 lakh murrel fish available for prasadam preparation.
GHMC provided mobile toilets and sanitation facilities, while the Water Board installed drinking water counters. The Revenue Department set up a dedicated help centre, and voluntary organisations are supplying free breakfast, meals, and drinking water to asthma patients and their attendants.
TSRTC is operating 140 special buses from 14 depots across the city, covering key locations such as Secunderabad Railway Station, MGBS, JBS, ECIL, Shamshabad Airport, Dilsukhnagar, Uppal, and Rajendranagar to facilitate public access.
Security arrangements have also been tightened, with police deploying personnel and monitoring the venue with 70 CCTV cameras.
