Jerusalem/Beirut, May 6 (UNI) The Israeli military said it struck eastern and southern Lebanon on Monday night, targeting what it described as a "strategic weapons facility" and militant sites belonging to Hezbollah.
The military said in a statement that Hezbollah used the facility in the Beqaa area for the production and storage of strategic weapons. It also reported identifying attempts by Hezbollah to "re-establish presence and operations within the facility."
Additional strikes were carried out in the area of Srifa in southern Lebanon, where, according to the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), Hezbollah military infrastructure sites were targeted.
The military warned it "will continue to operate to remove any threat to the State of Israel and will prevent any attempt by Hezbollah to re-establish its terror capabilities."
A Lebanese security source told Xinhua that "Israeli warplanes launched six strikes on areas in eastern Lebanon, targeting open areas believed to contain Hezbollah positions."
"Israeli drones and helicopters also carried out three strikes on four prefabricated homes in Tayr Harfa and destroyed them," the security source added. Lebanon's state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported that two strikes were carried out by helicopters and the third by a drone.
Also on Monday, Aroldo Lazaro Saenz, head of mission and force commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, said that the situation in southern Lebanon has become more stable but remains fragile, and that every effort must be made to avoid any scenario that could lead to an escalation.
The attacks were the latest in a series of frequent strikes Israel has carried out despite a ceasefire in November 2024, which ended 14 months of cross-border fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.
