Lucknow, Apr 1 (UNI) Skipper Shreyas Iyer and Prabhsimran Singh powered Punjab Kings to a commanding eight-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 13th match of IPL 2025 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium here on Tuesday.
Iyer remained unbeaten on 52 off 30 balls, striking three fours and four sixes, while Prabhsimran Singh's blistering 69 off 34 deliveries set the tone for Punjab’s dominant chase. Their authoritative batting display saw Punjab chase down LSG’s target of 172 with ease, finishing at 177 for two in just 16.2 overs.
Prabhsimran was in sublime touch, toying with the LSG bowlers. He brought up his fifty in style, tucking a delivery through midwicket for a single. His innings featured an array of attacking strokes, including a lofted shot over mid-on for four, a premeditated reverse-scoop over the keeper, and a stylish sweep over backward square leg. His dazzling knock came to an end when he mistimed a slog-sweep, allowing Ayush Badoni to flick the ball back from the boundary for Ravi Bishnoi to complete the catch.
Iyer then took over, playing a captain’s knock to guide Punjab to victory. He unleashed a stunning six over midwicket off Avesh Khan, making a crisp sound off the bat. Nehal Wadhera played a supporting role with a quickfire 43* off 25 balls, adding to the carnage with consecutive sixes off Shardul Thakur in the 15th over, one of which sailed deep over square leg. Iyer sealed the match with a towering six off Abdul Samad, marking his fifty in emphatic fashion.
LSG’s bowling attack struggled to contain Punjab’s aggressive batsmen. Digvesh Singh Rathi was the only bowler to make an impact, claiming two wickets for 30 runs in his four overs, including the early dismissal of Priyansh Arya for 8. Rathi’s animated celebration after Arya’s wicket drew the umpire’s attention, reminiscent of Kesrick Williams’ signature notebook gesture.
Earlier, LSG posted 171 for seven in their allotted 20 overs. Nicholas Pooran top-scored with 44 off 30 balls, hammering five boundaries and two sixes.
Badoni anchored the middle order with 41 off 33 deliveries, while Samad provided late fireworks with a 12-ball 27, hitting two fours and two sixes. Their innings also saw moments of luck, including Arya being dropped at slip by Mitchell Marsh in the second over.
Arshdeep led Punjab’s bowling attack with figures of 3/33 in his four-over spell, while Marco Jansen, Glenn Maxwell, and Yuzvendra Chahal chipped in with a wicket each.
With this, Punjab secured their second victory in as many matches by displaying an all-round performance with both bat and ball. They next play against Rajasthan Royals on April 5 and LSB will faceoff against Mumbai Indians on April 4. UNI BDN SSP
