J&K Police arrest four drug peddlers with contraband substance

Srinagar, Mar 16 (UNI) Police have arrested four drug peddlers in separate incidents and recovered contraband substances from their possession in Kashmir valley.
Police on Sunday said that continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, it has arrested a drug peddler in Srinagar while patrolling from Bemina Chowk to Boatman Colony.
They said a vehicle that was coming from Bemina Chowk towards Boatman Colony was intercepted after being noticed driving suspiciously and recklessly trying to flee. However, the vehicle was tactfully stopped. The driver immediately jumped out and fled from the spot. The other co-passenger remained inside and was apprehended on the spot who disclosed his name as Sameer Ahmad Bhat a resident of Woyan Pampore.
During questioning the arrested accused disclosed the identity of the driver as Mudasir Ahmad Pir of Firdous Colony Bemina.
During the search, a substantial quantity of Brown sugar-like substance was recovered from the Dashboard of the vehicle. Moreover, one weighing machine and a mobile phone were also seized on the spot. Besides, vehicles used in the commission of crime have also been seized.
Accordingly, a case under the relevant section of law has been registered in Police Station Bemina. Search for another accused person who fled from the spot is underway.
In another incident, a police party at the Kanthbagh checkpoint near District Police Lines Baramulla intercepted two suspicious persons who tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully.
During the search, about 100 grams of Charas-like substance was recovered from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Javid Ahmed Sheikh and Sameer Ahmed Sheikh, both residents of Khawajabagh Baramulla. The duo was arrested and shifted to the police station where they remain in custody.
Similarly in Budgam, a Police Party of Police Station Khansahib at Bugroo checkpoint crossing, intercepted a Scooty and during search, a heroin-like substance was recovered from the scooty rider, identified as Adil Showkat Khan resident of Nilsar Mohalla Wavoora Baramulla presently residing at Ompora Budgam.
Subsequently, he was arrested on the spot. The Scooty used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated.
