Karnataka BJP slams Congress over Pakistan map

Bengaluru, May 12 (UNI) The Karnataka Congress triggered a political storm on Monday over its social media post that allegedly featured a map showing Jammu and Kashmir as part of Pakistan, prompting a swift backlash and accusations of anti-national conduct from the BJP.
The now-deleted post, published on X, was intended to criticise Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government for what it termed as a "diplomatic failure" to block the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from disbursing fresh financial aid to Pakistan.
The IMF on May 9 approved a disbursement of approximately USD 1 billion to Islamabad under its Extended Fund Facility.
The controversy erupted shortly after the post surfaced, with BJP leaders accusing the Congress of sympathising with Pakistan and undermining national unity, particularly in light of India's recent diplomatic objections to the IMF loan.
These objections came in the wake of the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which left 26 people dead.
Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, R Ashoka, launched a scathing attack on the Congress, calling the post a "betrayal" and alleging that the party's IT cell was acting like a "sleeper cell for Pakistani terrorists".
"By tweeting a map showing Kashmir as part of Pakistan, Karnataka Congress has once again revealed its fondness for sinful Pakistan," Ashoka said on X.
He also took aim at Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s earlier remarks downplaying the need for military escalation against Pakistan, stating, "The CM, who initially advocated for peace with Pakistan, changed his stance only after facing public backlash."
Ashoka recalled that a previous Congress social media post calling for peace, published in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, had also been quietly deleted amid public criticism.
