Karwar naval base gears up for IOS SAGAR flagoff

Karwar (Karnataka), Apr 4 (UNI) Final preparations are underway onboard INS Sunayna at the Karwar Naval Base for the formal inauguration of the Indian Navy’s ambitious multinational maritime mission, Indian Ocean Ship (IOS) SAGAR, by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday.
Speaking to reporters today, Commander Kamal Singh, the Commanding Officer of INS Sunayna, said the mission is part of the Government of India’s SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) initiative aimed at strengthening regional maritime cooperation, security, and economic stability across the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
As part of the mission, 44 personnel – including 12 officers and 32 sailors – from nine friendly foreign countries have been embarked on INS Sunayna. These personnel have already completed professional and harbour training at the Naval base in Kochi, followed by two days of sea training. The multinational crew, hailing from naval, coast guard, and marine police backgrounds, are well-versed in shipboard operations and have integrated seamlessly with their Indian counterparts.
