Kerala: SIT files chargesheet in ADM Naveen Babu suicide case

Kannur, Mar 29 (UNI) The Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the death case of Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Naveen Babu, filed a chargesheet in the Magistrate court here on Saturday.
The charge-sheet, running into over 400 pages and testimonies of 82 witnesses, was filed before JFCM-1 after five months and 15 days.
The charge-sheet stated that the words of former District Panchayat President P P Divya prompted him to commit suicide and also said P P Divya is the sole accused in the case.
She attended the farewell meeting without an invitation with an aim to humiliate Naveen Babu. Divya also arranged a local visual channel to telecast the function, and it was circulated the visuals from her own mobile phone.
The investigation report of the Land Revenue Joint Commissioner also alleged that P P Divya is responsible for Naveen Babu's death and there is no evidence that Naveen asked for a bribe for the petrol pump permit.
SIT arrested P P Divya on October 29, 2024, and charged her under Section 108 of BNS, that deals with abetment of suicide, after the Thalassery District Sessions court rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Divya.
On October 15, ADM Naveen Babu (55) of Malayalapuzha in Pathanamthitta district was found hanging at his government quarters at Pallikunnu.
On October 14, CPI(M) leader and Kannur district Panchayat president P P Divya levelled allegation of corruption against Naveen Babu during his farewell related to his request transfer from Kannur to his home district Pathanamthitta with the presence of District Collector Arun K Vijayan and Revenue staffs and media.
P P Divya reportedly arrived at the farewell function uninvited by the organizing committee and levelled allegation of corruption against ADM related to grant a no objection certificate (NOC) for a petrol pump at Cheranmoola near Chengali.
