Khammam Station to receive modern facilities with Rs 25.41cr investment

Hyderabad, Mar 13 (UNI) Khammam Railway Station is undergoing significant redevelopment under the "Amrit Bharat Station Scheme" (ABSS) with an estimated expenditure of Rs 25.41 crore.
This initiative is part of Indian Railways' broader vision to modernise stations across the country, ensuring world-class amenities and enhanced passenger convenience.
The station is strategically located on the Delhi-Chennai and Hyderabad-Vijayawada railway lines, serving as a crucial hub for North-South connectivity. It falls under the Secunderabad Division and is categorised as a Non-Suburban Grade-3 (NSG-3) station.
With an average daily footfall of 12,988 passengers and annual earnings of Rs 29.64 crore, Khammam station sees halts for approximately 83 trains, including major superfast services connecting key destinations such as New Delhi, Howrah, Chennai, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Secunderabad, and Tirupati.
The redevelopment aims to improve passenger comfort with facilities such as air-conditioned waiting rooms, escalators, and improved amenities. The station building facade is being enhanced for improved aesthetics, while a new entrance portico is being constructed for better access.
A new 12-meter-wide Foot Over Bridge (FOB) with two lifts and two escalators is being installed to facilitate passenger movement. Platform surfaces are being improved, and additional platform covers are being provided for better shelter.
Sanitation facilities are being upgraded, including Divyangjan-friendly features. The waiting hall is being enhanced with improved seating and a better environment, while landscaping and circulation improvements are being made to ensure smoother traffic flow. The station will also feature artistic depictions of regional culture, along with improved signage for clear passenger guidance, including train indication boards and coach indication boards.
Currently, over 45 per cent of the redevelopment work has been completed. Completed works include the fabrication, erection, and sheeting of a 12m-wide gangway; completion of the general waiting hall, false ceiling and flooring improvements in retiring rooms, and the completion of a temporary booking office.
The erection of columns and purlins for platform shelters has also been finished. Ongoing works include the fabrication and erection of ramps for the 12m-wide FOB, foundation work for lifts and escalators, wall plastering for the AC lounge, and gutter fixing for platform shelters.
The remaining tasks are progressing rapidly, with completion targeted within a few months. These upgrades will significantly enhance the travel experience for passengers using Khammam Railway Station, according to the South Central Railway (SCR) statement here on Thursday.
