Hyderabad, Apr 2 (UNI) Union Minister and Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy criticised Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, calling his sit-in at Jantar Mantar in Delhi an attempt to evade the implementation of 42 per cent BC reservations.
He alleged that the protest, held under the guise of BC organisations, was merely a political stunt.
In a statement on Wednesday, Kishan Reddy accused Revanth Reddy of insincerity in providing BC reservations, claiming that he sees BCs only as a vote bank rather than genuinely working for their welfare.
He questioned how Revanth Reddy could now blame the Centre for not implementing the 42 per cent reservation when he himself had promised it before the elections. He alleged that the Chief Minister was deliberately staging this "drama" to avoid fulfilling his commitment to BCs.
Targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Kishan Reddy claimed that he was orchestrating the entire protest from behind the scenes. He accused Rahul Gandhi of disrespecting BCs, recalling that he had once mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a BC leader, and labeled people with the surname "Modi" as thieves.
Reddy further alleged that the Congress has a history of blocking BC reservations, citing that Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi had all opposed the implementation of BC welfare measures. He claimed that Rahul Gandhi had inherited an anti-BC mindset and was now using Revanth Reddy as a tool to obstruct BC reservations in Telangana.
Criticising the Telangana Congress government, Kishan Reddy stated that none of the promises made to BCs had been fulfilled. He pointed out that in the BC Declaration in Kamareddy, Revanth Reddy had promised to increase BC reservations within six months of coming to power but later ignored it.
He argued that the 42 per cent BC reservation bill was only passed under pressure from the people and not out of genuine concern for BC welfare. He also questioned the allocation of Rs 20,000 crore per year for BC welfare, stating that despite the Congress presenting two budgets, these promises were never implemented.
Kishan Reddy further attacked the Congress government for its lack of BC representation in the cabinet. He pointed out that while the Congress claims that BCs make up 46 per cent of the population, the government has given them only two ministerial posts. He also questioned the delay in setting up the promised separate MBC Welfare Ministry, even after being in power for nearly one and a half years.
Defending the Narendra Modi government, Kishan Reddy said that Modi has worked tirelessly for BC welfare and development. He credited Modi for giving constitutional status to the BC National Commission, implementing BC reservations in education and jobs, increasing scholarships, and launching self-employment schemes to uplift BC communities. He claimed that under Modi’s leadership, BC representation in education, employment, and politics has significantly improved.
He called Rahul Gandhi and Revanth Reddy "BC traitors", accusing them of hypocritically claiming to support BCs while engaging in political conspiracies to cover up their failures in delivering on election promises.
