Hyderabad, Apr 6 (UNI) BRS Working President K T Rama Rao (KTR) strongly backed the ongoing student-led effort to save the 400-acre Kancha Gachibowli land in an open letter denouncing what he called the intimidation and defamation campaign by the Congress-led Telangana government against University of Hyderabad (HCU) students.
KTR blasted the government for trying to sabotage a legitimate environmental movement by disseminating false information, including plans to move the institution and ideas to turn the forest into a "Eco Park."
According to him, these allegations are a part of a "deliberate conspiracy" to distract the public and stifle a peaceful and just battle.
KTR praised HCU students, environmental activists, public personalities, journalists, and concerned people for speaking out in support of nature, writing, "Movements born out of selflessness always succeed."
He said the nation, as a whole, is inspired by the students' activity and their resistance to the destruction of ecologically important territory that is home to hundreds of species.
KTR alleged that the state government is secretly planning to shift HCU to a so-called "Fourth City" as part of a broader land deal, accusing the Chief Minister’s Office and Congress leaders of acting like real estate agents instead of public representatives.
He emphasized that the Hyderabad Central University campus, which has stood for over 50 years, represents environmental harmony and academic excellence—far more meaningful than any artificial Eco Park.
Describing the move to dismantle the university in the name of development as a betrayal of future generations, KTR cited past Supreme Court interventions in environmental cases and noted that while one phase of the battle may have been won, the larger struggle continues.
He called on the people of Telangana, especially students and environmental advocates, to sustain their united and peaceful resistance.
Reiterating the BRS party’s unwavering support, KTR pledged to protect all 400 acres of the forest without compromising the university’s existence. He demanded that the government immediately halt all auction-related activities and formally scrap any plans that threaten the forest.
“Until then, this fight will go on. Together, we will protect Kanche Gachibowli for our future generations,” KTR added.
