London, Apr 22 (UNI) Burnley and Leeds United were promoted from the Championship to the Premier League after their wins on Monday.
After two years in the second tier and having lost last season's promotion play-off final to Southampton, Leeds returned to the Premier League thanks to a thumping 6-0 win at home to
Stoke City, while Burnley's 2-1 victory against Sheffield United means the Lancashire outfit
bounces back to the elite just a year after suffering relegation.
With two games left, both teams have 94 points, meaning Sheffield United, which sits third with
86 points, cannot overhaul them. Leeds has won 27 of its 44 matches, while Burnley has 26 wins.
The pair replace Southampton and Leicester City, who have already been relegated from the Premier League, with Ipswich Town set to join them.
The fact that all three teams promoted to the Premier League a year ago are dropping straight back down to the Championship highlights the task facing Leeds and Burnley, with newly-promoted sides finding it increasingly difficult to survive alongside long-established Premier League teams.
