Mumbai, May 4 (UNI) Police arrested a 46-year-old Bangladeshi woman for illegally residing in India without valid documents, officials said here on Sunday.
Woman, identified as Rubina Nazimuddin Shaikh, a native of Jessore district, Bangladesh, was arrested by Dongri police station in the Wadi Bunder area of south Mumbai, following a tip-off.
During interrogation while checking her mobile phone, officers found WhatsApp messages indicating ongoing contact with her family in Bangladesh.
Further investigation revealed that the birth certificate she carried had been issued from 24 Parganas, West Bengal. In addition to the certificate, she also possessed an Aadhaar card, PAN card, and voter's ID — all of which raised suspicions due to discrepancies in birth dates and inconsistencies in the personal details.
Rubina, however, admitted that she had crossed the border due to financial difficulties and had been living in India illegally, officials said, adding that she claimed the forged Indian documents were provided by an unknown individual after she entered the country.
