Maha: Congress chief blames BJP leaders for comparing Devendra Fadnavis with Aurangzeb

Mumbai, Mar 17 (UNI) After coming under fire for making a comparison of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis with Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Harshavardhan Sapkal in a sharp rebuttal on Monday pointed that some BJP leaders are now equating Fadnavis with cruel Aurangzeb.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the current brutal governance in Maharashtra is deeply troubling.
The gruesome murder of Beed sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh, the Swargate rape case, farmers' suicides and growing incidents of atrocities against women paint a grim picture of the Fadnavis government's rule, he said.
In this context, comparing Fadnavis' governance to that of Aurangzeb, he highlighted the similarities between their regimes, not the individuals themselves, he clarified.
However, some BJP leaders are now equating Fadnavis with cruel Aurangzeb, he said.
Responding to BJP state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule’s remarks, Sapkal challenged him to explain how criticising Fadnavis' governance had hurt Marathi identity.
"Doesn't the disrespect shown to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj harm Marathi pride? When Koratkar and Solapurkar insulted Shivaji Maharaj, why did Bawankule remained silent," he countered.
