Mumbai, Apr 3 (UNI) Police on Thursday arrested a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan for allegedly driving an SUV (sports utility vehicle) under influence of alcohol and crashing his vehicle into an autorickshaw on Western Express Highway, killing a woman passenger and seriously injuring her two daughters and auto driver.
The Vanrai police station arrested CISF jawan Dhondiram Yadav and booked him with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
The deceased woman, identified as Hazra Shaikh, a resident of Jogeshwari, was heading to Goregaon in early hours of Thursday with her two daughters Shaheen (22) and Shirin (17) in an autorickshaw after celebrating Eid at a relative’s place in South Mumbai.
Shaikh’s husband was sitting in another autorickshaw with their third and youngest daughter.
According to police, Yadav was driving a service vehicle on the south-bound stretch when he lost control of it and jumped over the divider to crash into the autorickshaw on the flyover in Goregaon East.
