Manipur-based KCP-PWG Finance Secretary arrested by Meghalaya police

Shillong, Apr 22 (UNI) Meghalaya police have arrested the Finance Secretary of Manipur-based terrorist outfit Kangleipak Communist Party – People’s War Group (KCP-PWG) Khundongbam Herojit Meitei from Byrnihat, an industrial town on the Assam-Meghalaya border, police said.

Meitei wanted by Manipur police was arrested late Monday evening from a rented house at Nongthymmai, 15th Mile Byrnihat in Ri-Bhoi district. Police seized two mobile phones and other incriminating documents from his possession.

“Meitei was involved in extortion and other subversive activities within Meghalaya and other northeastern states, Vivekanand Singh Rathore, the district police chief of Ri-Bhoi, said.

During preliminary interrogation, the Manipuri militant leader admitted to being an active member of the KCP-PWG and has been collecting money on behalf of the proscribed outfit from Manipur.

''The Finance Secretary was hiding in the Assam-Meghalaya border to avoid getting arrested by the security forces which are presently taking strict action on various militant organisations involved in creating law and order problems in Manipur,” Rathore said.

Meitei is closely linked with other militant organisations based out of Myanmar and Nepal, police said.

Incidentally, he was arrested last year in Manipur for illegal firearm possession and also in Nagaland’s Dimapur district in 2018 in a drug trafficking case.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered against him at the Nongpoh police station under relevant sections of the law.
