Agartala, May 16 (UNI) Accepting the demand of the Tripura government, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sanctioned the raising of one more India Reserve (IR) Battalion of Tripura State Rifles (TSR).
So far, TSR has 13 battalions that have been performing duties par excellence across the country, especially election duty, counter-insurgency operations, and security engagement in ONGC's exploration activities.
Announcing the MHA decision, Dr Saha said, "It’s a big boost for Tripura! MHA sanctions raising of another India Reserve Battalion for TSR, enhancing security and generating employment opportunities, which will further strengthen the security base of the country.”
According to officials, MHA shall reimburse a one-time financial assistance of Rs 50 crore for raising one IR Battalion. The Government of India will exercise the right of first call on the IR Battalion and shall have full authority to ask the State to make the Battalion available for deployment anywhere in the country, as and when required.
For infrastructure cost (excluding cost of land), up to Rs 30 crore will be reimbursed.
