Microsoft begins testing new feature of AI voice assistant Copilot Voice

Washington, May 15 (UNI) Tech giant Microsoft has begun testing a new feature of its AI voice assistant Copilot Voice, titled Hey Copilot, which will allow Windows 11 users to start a conversation with the app by simply saying ‘Hey Copilot’, similar to Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri.
Windows Insiders who have the updated app can try it out once they opt in and activate the feature.
A part of Microsoft’s efforts to enhance the conversational experience of Copilot Voice, this development marks a significant step in Microsoft's integration of AI into its operating system, aiming to provide users with a more seamless and interactive experience.
According to a blog post by Microsoft, users will need to enable the feature for it to be able to respond to the wake word. Also, the update isn’t available to all Insiders right away, but it is rolling out to testers worldwide who have English set as their display language, reports The Verge.
Once activated, Copilot microphone floating UI on the bottom of user screen and get a chime notification that shows it’s listening in.
Currently available to Windows Insiders with Copilot app version 1.25051.10.0 or higher, the wake word detection for Hey Copilot operates on-device using a 10-second audio buffer, ensuring that no audio is sent to the cloud or stored locally. It can even recognise user voice offline, though an internet connection is required for Copilot Voice to function, as it relies on cloud processing.
