More than 6,800 literacy courses launched in Afghanistan in 1 year

Kabul, Apr 2 (UNI) The Afghan interim government's Ministry of Education has launched over 6,800 literacy courses throughout the country over the past year, a local media outlet reported Wednesday.
"A total of 6,819 literacy courses have been created, benefiting 145,305 individuals, and more than 122,000 participants have graduated from these courses," Tolonews quoted the director of illiteracy at the Ministry of Education as saying.
According to the official, 7,200 literacy classes are set to be created, with the aim of educating 180,000 people in the Persian calendar year of 1404.
Millions of Afghans have been deprived of education due to poverty and decades of conflicts, particularly in remote and mountainous regions.
Meanwhile, due to restrictions set by the Afghan interim government, girls are not allowed to attend classes above grade six, and females are prohibited from attending universities until further notice.
The year of 1404 in the Persian calendar in Afghanistan started on March 21.
