MP: ASI & youth killed, 4 policemen injured in attack by angry villagers in Mauganj dist

Mauganj (MP), Mar 15 (UNI) An Assistant Sub-Inspector and a youth were allegedly killed and four other police personnel were injured after being attacked by a mob of armed angry villagers in Gadra village of Madhya Pradesh's Mauganj district on Saturday.
As per report, a youth was allegedly beaten to death after being held hostage in Gadra village of Mauganj district on Saturday.
On receiving information about the incident, a police team that arrived there was also attacked by the armed villagers, in which an Assistant Sub-Inspector died and at least four other police personnel were injured.
ASI Ramcharan Gautam was killed while a couple of more police personnel were severely injured as they were attacked by villagers, they chased the police team with axes and other weapons, pelted stones, among other materials, police said on Saturday.
According to police, additional police force was deployed in Gadra village under the Shahpur police station area, and they brought the situation under control late in the night, and some of the attackers have been detained.
The injured police officials and a naib tehsildar have been admitted to a hospital for treatment.
Sources said a tribal man had died in a road accident some time ago. Villagers today held a man, Sunny Dwivedi, hostage and locked him in a room in the village and beat him up.
According to police, the incident traces back to the death of a tribal man named Ashok Kumar in an alleged road accident a few months ago.
According to police, Kumar died in a road accident; however, his family had then alleged that he was killed by Sunny Dube.
On Friday, when the tribals found Sunny Dube alone, they kidnapped him and locked him in a room.
After getting information, Superintendent of Police Upendra Kumar Sharma reached the spot. On Saturday evening, when police reached there to rescue Dube, he was already dead by then. The villagers were angry. They were carrying arms and ammunition. The police too were attacked by the villagers.
At least four police personnel were injured in the attack. The officers and police personnel from the team somehow saved themselves and informed the senior police officers.
The injured policemen were rushed to a hospital where ASI Ramcharan Gautam was declared brought dead. The rest of the injured police officials have been admitted to a hospital in Maujganj for treatment.
