Amgen India launches new technology and innovation center in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Feb 24 (UNI) Amgen India on Monday launched its new technology and innovation center at HITECH city here.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who inaugurated the center, expressed his pride in welcoming Amgen, one of the world's most renowned biotech companies, to Hyderabad.
"I am proud to welcome Amgen, a global leader in biotechnology, as it establishes its first development facility here. When I visited the Amgen Center in San Francisco along with IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu in August last year, I witnessed Amgen’s strong commitment to scientific innovation and its mission to transform lives through research, discovery, and advancements in medicine and biotechnology," he said.
"The arrival of Amgen in Hyderabad strengthens our position as a global hub for innovation and technology in biotech and life sciences. You have chosen Hyderabad for its world-class talent in medicine, life sciences, data sciences, and artificial intelligence, with a mission to serve patients worldwide," Reddy said.
The Chief Minister emphasised Telangana’s leadership in the life sciences sector, stating, "Our state has been a pioneer in biotech and life sciences. Some of the largest pharmaceutical companies have already established their presence here. This new facility will enhance Amgen’s digital capabilities and contribute to its global operations."
Reaffirming his commitment to supporting the company’s growth, he said, "Telangana is dedicated to becoming a trillion-dollar economy and positioning itself as the preferred ‘China Plus One’ destination for global industries. We aim to rapidly transform Hyderabad into one of the world's greatest cities."

"To every scientist, researcher, and professional who will work here, I extend a warm welcome to Hyderabad and to a promising future that we will build together," he added.
Telangana IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu called Amgen India’s launch in Hyderabad a proud moment, marking a new chapter in the state's journey toward becoming a global life sciences hub.
Reflecting on discussions that began a year ago, he credited Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s vision for positioning Hyderabad as a leading biotech and life sciences destination. He recalled meetings with Amgen’s global leadership in San Francisco, where the company’s commitment to Hyderabad was solidified.
The Minister emphasized that Hyderabad is rapidly emerging as a capital for Global Capability Centers (GCCs) and a powerhouse of digital innovation, advanced analytics, automation, and AI-driven solutions in biotechnology. He expressed confidence that Amgen’s presence would redefine drug discovery, regulatory compliance, and personalized medicine.
Babu highlighted the Telangana government’s focus on skill development, mentioning the establishment of the Young India Skills University to train and upskill professionals, especially in biotechnology.
Encouraging Amgen to collaborate with universities, research institutions, and startups, he underscored the potential to nurture the next generation of scientists, data analysts, and healthcare technologists.
"As Amgen begins this new chapter in Hyderabad, I assure you of the government’s full support. This city is not just another location—it will be a critical global hub for innovation and talent," he concluded.
Robert A. Bradway, Chairman & CEO of Amgen, expressed his delight at inaugurating Amgen India in Hyderabad’s High-Tech City, calling it a significant step in the company’s global expansion. He acknowledged Telangana’s supportive ecosystem for technology and innovation, thanking Chief Minister A.Revanth Reddy and other officials for fostering a business-friendly environment.
Bradway emphasised India’s growing pool of AI, science, engineering, and technology talent, positioning Hyderabad as a key hub for global biotech and pharmaceutical industries. Amgen plans an initial investment of USD 200 million in its new center by 2025, with additional investments in the coming years.
This facility will enhance Amgen’s digital and technological capabilities, supporting drug development and regulatory processes more efficiently.
Reflecting on Amgen’s journey since its founding in 1980, the Chairman highlighted the company’s commitment to developing innovative medicines for serious diseases. He noted that Amgen’s presence in Hyderabad will accelerate research, regulatory review, and the availability of groundbreaking treatments worldwide.
Som Chattopadhay, National Executive for Amgen India, reiterated that the Hyderabad facility represents a vision realized—one centered on innovation, collaboration, and global health. He expressed gratitude to Telangana’s leadership and Amgen’s global team for their efforts in making the center operational within just 78 days of contract signing.
With 300 employees already onboard and plans to scale up to over 2,000 by year-end, the site aims to be a hub for talent, technology, and science, driving innovation in healthcare.
