Chennai, Apr 30 (UNI) Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer on Wednesday confirmed that Australian allrounder Glenn Maxwell has sustained a fractured finger and remains unavailable for selection, adding that the team is yet to decide on a replacement.
"It’s unfortunate that he’s got a fractured finger," Iyer said at the toss against Punjab Kings. "We haven’t decided on a replacement so far," he added.
Maxwell’s injury comes at a time when Punjab are seeking stability in the middle order and experience with the ball. The Australian has endured a difficult IPL 2025 season, managing just 48 runs in six innings. However, with the ball, he has been relatively effective, claiming four wickets.
Meanwhile, the race to the playoffs continues to tighten. Punjab, with 11 points from nine matches (five wins, three losses and one no result), currently occupy the fifth position on the points table. A win against CSK in their upcoming fixture could catapult them to second place, further intensifying the competition for top-four spots.
Further updates on Maxwell’s recovery timeline and the team’s decision on a potential replacement are awaited.
